Brief

Taylor Wimpey wanted to resolve support issues by upgrading the operating system used for client devices and empower employees by adopting new and more agile working practices.

With nearly 4,000 staff at 27 regional office locations to support, procurement and implementation would be challenging.

“Dataquest had a difficult task with a tight schedule, complex logistics and detailed planning requirements. Dataquest not only delivered the project on time, but we have also achieved excellent feedback from many of our staff.”

Implementation

Dataquest’s Managed Services Department formed a project team to manage the enterprise-wide deployment of technology and to provide training and support for users. Working with executive stakeholders, the project team developed a proving process and engaging strategies to connect with 4,000 staff members.

Having refined the hardware and build requirements, a proof of concept was implemented at a pilot site. Following a successful proof of concept, the solution was deployed in two regional offices. This provided the detailed project and logistics information which enabled Dataquest to finesse plans for a company-wide rollout.

Dataquest created two project teams with senior team leaders reporting to a Managed Services leader to oversee the intricate timing and logistics challenges.

After each deployment at a rate of two locations per week, old devices were disposed of securely. In-depth training sessions were delivered over three days to each location by 2 dedicated IT trainers.

Thousands of new client devices, including notebooks, monitors, docking stations and peripherals were supplied. The teams also repurposed hundreds of existing devices. The team worked with staff to backup personal data, ready for copying to new devices.

Results

  • Each staff member completed a satisfaction survey, with over 95% expressing their experience was either good or excellent.
  • Regional Business Units were delighted with the efficiency of the project.
  • Despite Many challenges the project was completed on time.
  • Covid 19 – as the lockdown occurred
on March 23rd, Taylor Wimpey staff were all able to work from home with minimal impact as all were enabled and trained on new devices and software tools.
