Oaklands is a further education college in Hertfordshire based across 3 sites offering a vast varied selection of courses. The college was and is going through a considerable change with a number of building projects on the go.
Historically the college had been with the incumbent managed print supplier for a number of contract terms. Following an extensive National Framework Tender Submission, which was centred around the “need to rationalise its fleet of MFPs with an aim to reduce printing, costs and to meet sustainability targets through the college sustainability policy”.
Dataquest were awarded the contract for all sites with the inclusion of 31 point-of-need devices with print management and security software, high volume Print Room devices as well as a high-quality 3D printing solution to aid students in the engineering courses.
Being a busy educational setting set across vast and multiple sites, the project management and timing of the rollout were paramount to minimise any disruption and downtime. We pre-installed and tested the software on a couple of POC devices to ensure staff could still access all scan features and Sharepoint and OneDrive and that the secure release was issue free with the college’s current proximity cards.
The new equipment has provided significant cost savings and improved reliability around campus along with the accounting and reporting software enabling to college to accurately allocate costs to departments as well as using the data to help drive down printing and paper use, helping toward the environment and sustainability policy.
Since the successful Managed Print implementation, Dataquest has been selected to provision over 100 mobile devices and are helping the College with some large back-scanning projects to free up space and enhance data security and retention/compliance for the College.
“Dataquest has a niche set of solutions that are a great fit for education and the FE sector. At Oaklands, we have taken advantage of these solutions with the managed print option, including a whole campus refresh and upgrade of our MFD fleet, with new print management software, print ticketing system and some extended functionality for Microsoft 365. This has led to the college making significant cost efficiencies and allowing us to reduce paper usage throughout the organisation.” Garod Barker, Head of IT.
